I must be getting good at this. Or… I am just that good at picking games in the Fox Valley area.
I’ll go with the ladder of that statement.
Another great week of action, another 9-1 week put me at an 18-2 record. The 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls better watch out. 73 is definitely not out of the question.
At the pace I’m going at by the end of Week 9 I could be 80-10.
Hopefully I haven’t set myself up to fail for Week 3, which features a familiar contest that’s usually saved for the end of the season.
Crystal Lake South and Cary-Grove battle it out once again this Friday for FVC supremacy but usually in a game that’s saved to determine the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division will now set the tone in the FVC Valley.
Cary is coming off an 10-7 upset of Lake Zurich and has to be supercharged. South is fresh off its 9-0 shutout win over Crystal Lake Central – which was covered by NBC 5.
Both are 2-0. Both know each other very well. And both know this is a big game as its been that way since 2004.
Defense seems to be the key this week. South’s held their opponents to just 6 points this season, Cary just 7. Both teams hold shutouts.
The wild card will be the offenses. Can South stop the option as typically asked each season and can South score on Cary’s defense. South looks to be struggling offensively. I expect a low scoring affair between the FVC’s two juggernauts.
Bartlett bounced back the way I expected. Actually, no, I take that back. Bartlett bounced back fiercely against Elgin. 42-0? Elgin, you need Dennis Moore back now.
Jacobs is 2-0, but their first half’s merit an 0-2 record. They’re fumbling the ball left and right and these slow starts might catch up to them if they don’t correct it fast. 8 fumbles in two games, 4 lost, ouch.
Luckily, the Golden Eagles have a Hall of Fame coach in Bill Mitz and studs like running back Caz Zyks and full back Kyle Wright to bust through tackles. They should be fine at home against Grayslake North.
Even Wright acknowledged his team is playing sloppy and that it needs to be fixed. They won’t beat Cary, South or PR if they keep it up.
South Elgin is getting closer and closer to that historical opener at home, the first of which for the Storm next week. You guys have to be like little kids on Christmas Eve.
Dundee-Crown comes into Friday’s game against McHenry losers of 19-straight. If any indication appears, historically, the Chargers will watch the streak extend to 20. D-C hasn’t won since Week 1 of 2009 and I suspect the kids will give McHenry everything it can to avoid the double-digit loss department.
Will D-C welcome itself back to the roaring 20’s? We’ll see.
The Labor Day holiday weekend got to me a little bit, but here are the games (although late) I’ll pick from for Friday.
